| I grew up in a musical family in California, USA and I was heavily involved in music at school. I played the flute and piccolo. I used to mess around on my mom's piano making up tunes, though my mom never had the time to teach me to play properly. I have always loved to sing and dance! When I was 17 I joined a band as a singer, but when the bass player left I decided to learn the bass. It has been my instrument of choice ever since and I am completely self taught. The band didn't last long and once I left school music was pushed aside by life and I gave up all my dreams of singing. My first husband forced me to sell my bass and over the next 12 years I hardly ever played. That marriage didnt last long. I collected hundreds of CD's to keep me consoled over the years. I listened to everything! Rock, pop, techno, disco, rap, classical, you name it, I listened to it! I sang all the time, but only to myself. My weight grew, my confidence dropped and various aspects of my life got pretty fucked up from time to time. When my son Aaron was born in 2000 it really looked like any chance of ever making a career in music was truly gone for ever. Not that I even thought about it too often any more. Things changed for me after I had moved to Perth, Australia in 2002 to be with my new husband Stephen. He supported me and encouraged me to follow my dreams. I started to grow in confidence again, but it was still over 4 years into our relationship before I decided I was going to join a band and see if I could make some money from my singing. That was in August 2006. I was very nervous, especially when the first band that auditioned me said they wanted to write their own songs. I had forgotten about making up tunes as a girl and really didnt know if I would be able to do it. Stephen encouraged me to give it a go anyway. Things didnt work out with that band. We broke up after just two months, but what came out of it was a belief that I could write my own songs as well as sing. I had bought a new bass guitar earlier that year and had started playing again inbetween practice sessions as a tool to help me find melodies for the bands music. Once I left the band I used my bass to help me write my own songs. I wrote the first one in October 2006. I have written 20 more and two techno pieces on the keyboards inbetween then and now. I have just moved to Sydney from Perth in June 2007 to pursue my music career and find a music label to help me launch my career. I am currently going Independant until it gets to a point that I might need a major to pick me up, but until that time, I would prefer to stay "Indie". All the music I've listened to and all the shit I have been through have all ended up helping me write my own music. It just goes to show everything DOES happen for a reason and at the end of the day you have to eventually follow your heart if you want fullfillment and happyness.
