    Save $$$, Stop Cruelty

    by: CFCFCF

I am not talking about becoming a vegetarian or vegan. Thats too much of a stretch even for me. First, the problem with eating meat is that we are required to grow food for the animals in addition to keeping the animals themselves. Cattle produce massive amounts of CO2, a known contributer to Green House Gasses. Forests cut to make room for feed production, and pasture space... many cattle are often warehoused in crowded feed lots, standing in their own muck for days on end.
Most people (especially Americans) eat more meat than they should for health reasons. The average portion size for meat should be about the size of a deck of cards. The amount of meat eaten by 1 average American in one meal is enough to feed a family of 4 in Japan.
Not just for the sake of the suffering of animals but for our own health, its good to reduce the amount of meat we eat. So many chemicals go into meat, including color dyes to make it look nicer in the stores. Hormones in meat are being attributed to our kids becoming sexually mature earlier... I dont know about you, but I shudder at the thought of being a parent with a nine year old girl having her period!!!
Interestingly enough wild caught meat is OK to eat for many reasons 1. no chemicals or growth hormones 2. no destruction of habitat to raise them 3. at least they had a happy life running free as opposed to a mentally stagnant life in a warehouse.
