Singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Arto Tunçboyaciyan has fronted the Armenian Navy Band since 1998. Featuring original songs written by Tunçboyaciyan, the Armenian Navy Band sound is dubbed “avant garde folk” and has strong elements of jazz and improvisation. Based on the musical traditions of Armenia and Anatolia, the band’s music fuses modern beats and influences from a slew of cultures throughout the world. The Armenian Navy Band comprises 12 musicians and features a variety of traditional and modern instruments including the duduk, zurna, kamancha, kanun, as well as trombone, sax, trumpet, bass, drums, and keyboards.

Winner of the BBC World Music Audience Award, the Armenian Navy Band has released four albums and toured extensively across the globe. As a solo artist, Tunçboyaciyan has released 11 records and continues to work with a number of internationally acclaimed musicians. Since starting his career in 1896, Tunçboyaciyan has collaborated with Paul Winter, Chet Baker, Al Di Meola, and Joe Zawinul, among others.
