"I think that fashion is the healthiest motivation for losing weight" states Karl Lagerfeld, über-mogul and the creative genuis behind Chloé, Fendi and most recently, Chanel. He should know: the designer credits his now-svelte physique to a 90lb. weight loss brought on by a bizarre 13 month diet, the details of which he divulged to Dr. Jean-Claude Houdret and published in a self-named paperback.
The Karl Lagerfeld Diet explains the mental and behavioral causes of obesity before providing the reader with (seemingly) healthy weight loss tips and recipes. Oddly, Lagerfeld's own favorite diet snacks (horsemeat and diet Coke) didn't make it into the book...darn.

  • Bespoke Attire, Not Made-to-Measure...

    Bespoke Attire, Not Made-to-Measure...

    by: artéfice

Within the year it is to my knowledge that major designers such as Giorgio Armani, Muicca Prada, Jil Sander, Tom Ford and others have have jump on the bandwagon of bespoke tailoring, a scarcity in men's clothing. Because of this, men in general (at least the affluent ones), will be able to purchase custom made attire similar to the likes of Brioni, Kiton, Rubinacci, and the Legends of Savile Row under brands and their styles, increasing variety. Of course all of which are linked in Italy and England via New York (for the most part). As a native of Philadelphia it would be my goal to market bespoke attire as made-to-measure and the companies offering the service don't nearly compare.

    What am I talking about?
Made-to-measure is a service that requires few measurements from a client and bases its pattern for assembly from pre-made patterns. The companies here although not bad, they aren't exactly inspiring. I went into clothiers like Boyd's, Burberry, and Nordstrom and found the most basic needs of men towards clothing.
Currently, bespoke is a service directly referring to the posture and build of the client for original measurements and patterns. A good portion of the service is hand-sewn, considering that the canvass is hand-stitched.
In the world of tailoring, MTM will always be number two, considering that almost 99 percent of today's tailoring is done on a sewing machine, proving that for most fashion labels, quantity rules over quality.
Genuine and authentic service is hard to find and equally (if not more) expensive. Although many may not give a damn because buying an expensive name off the rack is pretty much good enough for them and their gullible colleagues I would be honored to be on the lists in Forbes and in the sartorialist articles of GQ. For artisans like myself what is most inspiring are other artisans with visions, philosophies and purist ideals not money-driven monopolizers like Armani ("Mr.Savile Row is a bad English comedy", have some decency bitch!).

What do fashion, food, and Allah have in common?

They're all subjects in the latest advertising blunder by Dunkin' Donuts. The ad featured Food Network celeb Rachael Ray clutching a D&D frozen coffee drink and wearing...a kaffiyeh? Oh please. Everyone knows that thin knits are totally the craze right now, and Tibetan- and Indian-inspired prints have been knotting the necks of fashionistas worldwide. One super-conservative ad critic wrote that Ray's scarf resemebled a kaffiyeh, a piece of fabric that "has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad." Donut make us laugh...
