popularized in copolla's godfather trilogy, the color orange, whenever used in scenes, basically is an omen for death. when don corleone is shopping for fruit and then gets shot a bunch of times, he is picking up and buying oranges. in the third godfather, al pacino dies while peeling and eating an orange. also the color orange is very apparent in many of the death scenes, highlighted in some cases.
david chase picked this little trick up and has used it in the hbo series the sopranos very extensively. when tony survives his assassination attempt in season 1, he is holding a glass bottle of orange juice that gets shattered when the would-be assassin shoots at him and misses. also, in the series finale, orange is featured very very very prominently throughout the end of the episode.
hey, just thought this was an interesting thread for discussion to post in the orange things topic forum. has anyone else ever realized this or heard of these features in the godfather movies, other mob movies, or in the sopranos?
